BRICK THE BANK?

Lego DC Super Heroes Tumbler # 76023 was released a year ago, commemorating the release of The Dark Knight in theaters back in 2008. The set was the first, and by far the only unofficial UCS set in the Lego DC Comics line.

EYE-CATCHER

With The Dark Knight’s commercial success, premium merchandise tied to it would expectedly garner high demand. Our local Lego store would have people line-up when new stock shipments come on Tuesdays. They have also limited the purchase to only one per household. Lego’s online store would be out of stock for at least a month or two during the first few weeks of release. While the set’s presentation plays a small part for the set’s hype and demand, it’s still a definite eye-catcher. The amount of detail is superb and it is surprisingly sturdy. And it comes with two exclusive mini-figures.

NECK-BREAKER

Novice, experienced and master builders are guaranteed to at least three and a half to four hours of building time. The 11 numbered bags definitely helps. It has a good combination of basic pieces for the internal and external details, and Technic pieces for a strong chassis and axle system. While we’re not huge fans of stickers, the ones in this set were pretty easy to apply, and completes the details in the cockpit.

PLAY OR DISPLAY

The fact sheet card gives it away as a display set. No stud shooters or spring-loaded missile launchers. No working steering system either. Even though the Tumbler is not to mini-figure scale, Batman can still sit pretty well inside. Playability for this set would really have to come from the end user’s imagination.

BRICK THE BANK?

With 1896 pieces with two exclusive mini-figures, the $199 USD price tag is expected for an exclusive collector’s set like this one. Re-sale value has recently gone down due to high supply, but is also expected to go back to record highs once this set retires. Overall, Lego DC Super Heroes Tumbler is a must-have for true Batman and Lego fans alike.
