The giants are definitely coming as Disney releases the trailer for the BFG movie. The BFG is Roald Dahl’s beloved tale about the friendship between an orphan girl named Sophie and the BFG (short for Big Friendly Giant) as they go on an epic adventure involving bigger man-eating giants, dreams, nightmares, “snozzcumbers”, and even the Queen of England. The story was already adapted into 2D animation back in 1989 by ITV as part of their Christmas Special. This time around, the BFG movie will be a live-action feature directed by none other than Steven Spielberg himself. This is the first time that Spielberg is directing for Disney, and we are hoping that this won’t be his last. On his Facebook Live coinciding the release of the BFG trailer, Spielberg said that he’s thankful that he’s given the opportunity to once again liberate his imagination in creating this movie, reminding him of the same feeling back when he was doing E.T. Funny thing is, the screenplay was also written by E.T. screenwriter, Mellisa Mathison.

With Spielberg at the helm and Walt Disney’s supervision, the BFG movie will surely be one giant hit. The trailer itself is already all kinds of amazing. It’s a visual feast; it instantly gives a magical, mysterious vibe. The characters’ looks are on-point, adapting both looks from the book illustration as well as the 1989 2D adaptation. It stars the adorable Ruby Barnhill as Sophie and Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance as the BFG. The movie hits theaters on July 1.
